Established specifically for the commissioning of the Cunard cruise liner “Queen Victoria”, the Empress Quartet is a polished ensemble with a wide-ranging repertoire. Our music is stylish and tasteful for the most elegant of occasions such as wedding breakfasts, formal dinners, cocktail parties, anniversaries and other joyous events.
The Empress Quartet’s unique line up - violin or mandolin, accordion, guitar and bass allows us to draw on a great breadth of material and play in a wide variety of styles including soothing, light classical music (Mozart, Puccini, Vivaldi, Gluck and Elgar) , the exciting melodies of Brahms, Dvorak, and Shostakovich and fiery, east European, gipsy numbers such as Black Eyes, Moscow Nights, or the celebrated Czardas by Vittorio Monti.
In addition, we play romantic numbers by French and German composers plus nostalgic pieces of yesteryear from Irving Berlin, Noel Coward and Fats Waller.
The Empress Quartet’s standard dress is black tie and dinner jacket or white tuxedo but we are happy to dress less formally if required.
